1993 k1100lt
i am changing rear main seal.
manual shows thrust washer behind flywheel.
when i took it apart there was no thrust washer behind flywheel.
70+k on bike has run great all the time- first time flywheel has ever been off.
what gives?
also- everyone talks about expensive spark plug wires. I have found, and am using a set of wires from magnecor (out of michigan) that work fantastic. full set under $100 delivered. don't waste time and money on oem. |

So which ones did you go with? Do they make a K1100 kit or did you have to have a set custom made?

In this picture are you referring to #10?
I just did my clutch, rear seal and "O" ring a few weeks ago. It was on the shaft of the flywheel. IRRC, it is pretty thin.
Good luck. _________________ John & Cathy

There are two sizes of thrust washer listed in the EPC but having changed my clutch and rear main seal about a month ago ivestigated this at the time. If you really need to change it then you have to wait until you have it pulled apart to measure but according to my parts suppliers [Motorworks] it is a special order item from Germany as it is never changed.
Make sure you change the O ring and compression washer and nut as that is more likely to be the source of your oil leak unless your bell housing is full of oil. _________________ Fat Ba***d with a K1100LTse

does the seal have to be removed first to see this thrust washer?
if so, then i have not seen it yet because i have not removed the seal. |

No- it is between the flywheel and the rear seal.

You SURE it isn't still stuck to the shaft up against the flywheel??
Sorry to be so simplistic. _________________ John & Cathy

if it is between the flywheel and the seal, then the thrust washer would rub against the seal (not good), and thus not be called a thrust washer.
a thrust washer should space the flywheel the correct distance away from the face of the seal.
trust me there was no thrust washer that came off, when the flywheel was removed. |

| you are not silly(just because your wife says so) this weekend has been very busy for me(a new grandchild was born), and i have not had the time to pull the old seal out, so it is possible that it is still in there. |

well just take your time...
in this picture you can just make out the ring, it has fallen down a little bit and hangs on the central axle. (black ring) |

What's that stuff in the center hole. That doesn't look good! Remains of a bushing?
