Any tips? My wife would like to move up from her 250 Virago. Do they make a lower shock for a K11? I know they do for the 75?

I'd look for a K75 that has a low seat already. She'd probably like that more. It's a lighter bike and very smooth. On the one I bought it's so smooth that I've found myself travelling at freeway speeds only to look down and find that I'm still in 4th gear. Shocked

Or just get her a K75. You can often find someone on IBMWR who will just bought a low seat bike who wants to swap.

Also, have her sit on a K1100RS. It rides lower than the LT.

Best advise I can give is DON'T!!

I've done and since reversed the following; lowered the triple clamp and a Works lowered shock.

I had the seat reworked to be 1.5 inches shorted. Kept this.

Lowering the bike utterly mutilated the handling and trashed the cornering stability. It was frankly frightening in turns. It flopped over unpredictably no matter the line or speed.

I've never done it but I completely agree with Shogs. You're messing with suspension and handling geometry that's designed the way it is for a reason.

If by "they" making a short shock you mean BMW they never did.

Ok ok all in jest here.

Is the honey moon over?

U still love her? Want her around?

Is she stronger than you?

I SAID ALL IN JEST!!!

Now, IMHO that's a BIG move up man!
Especially with an K1100RS!!

A K75, the less body work the better, is most definately a better option.

Nice to see her rideing interest piqued, you are a lucky man, guide her will and she will show you horizons you have only dreamed of.

Peace.

But I have this rs just sitting in my shop with no to ride it. The serial #'s seems to have eroded away.

Just sitting?!?!

Dang!

I guess then, I'd just be a little nervous. Heavier bike, the weight up higher and a lot more ponies.

If she seems to want to, maybe try a little ride around, carefully.

The RS does not need to get far off vertical center to find the point of no return at slow speeds or when paddeling around.

Honesty, you know her best, and you know that machine, choice be yours and hers. Think about it carefully.

The bottom line is for you to provide the most postitive, non-threating beginner riding experience for her you can.

Do what feels right by both of you.

Talk about EVERYTHING.

Listen to her and be encouraging.

Don't let what looks like an easy option be the driving force behind this descission.
