last night @ about 0030 traveling at about 70mph a vibreation started to develope. i pulled over thinking it was a flat ...WRONG.. i had a large and growing bubble . deflated the tire and allowed to cool re inflated and took off
got only 2 miles and POP. the Mz-4 now has a split about 8 inches long on the direct center longitute axis of the tread. i was lucky did not go down and only dislodged the front fender and peeled off some fender paint.
note: tire only has about 4k mile on it with plenty of tread . but tire made in Germany on week 7 of 2004.
tire was purchased new off ebay from reputable shop.
After last years low pressure flat, nail holed tires; i check my tires twice daily for pressure.
1) who has had a similar failure and make and model of tire.
2) is this a know issue for this sport tires. ?
3) have you called manufacturer or a Gov't agency to file complaint and or warrenty repair.
i work in transportation and have seen all kinds of failure but nothing like this.
i have been skimming the internet and i looks like this tire has a history of this kind of failure.

Glad to hear you didn't biff. Not that I might not do the same but it doesn't seem very smart to keep riding on a tire that's shown a flaw like that. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

thanks for the complements Duckester'
I did think of the "smarts" only after it happened. it is just that my experiance has been that if it goes that casing / carcus would hold up and just the tread layer would come off.
next time i know and i just want to let other know of the issue with this tire.
thanks again _________________ fix the problem not the blame ; fix what is messed up ; NO one is to blame. |
