IS it possible for a K1100RS to run lean?
mine is showing tell tale signs, very light (near white) sparkplugs (standard Bosch xd5 (or what ever they are)).

Should the brain not tweak the settings when something is off to ensure rich running (O2 sensor, temp sensors).

what i also found is that after a TB sync, i adjusted the rpm to 1000 (just because you can, it turns over slightly smoother, has a higher oil moving cap) now the rpm have dropped to about 900 (this time i did not touch ANY thing!)

any thoughts?

I will start with a set of new spark plugs, i now run the standard bosch ones. (the XD5 somethings)

Most Motobricks tend to run lean. Don't worry.

What if i tell you 1 of the 4 sparkers is "coffe with milk" colour, the others are just milk.. WHITE!

also the RPM's dropping?



The one on the scroll bar side of the screen is "the dark one".... the rest are the whities..

The "dark one" is the one found in cylinder 1 (front of bike) the others are laying in the order as they came out, most left one being the number 4 (near TPS) cylinder

Questions are going to be: how many miles on them?

What kind of fuel do you use regularly,

how's your mpg,

do you use any kind F.I. additive, and if so, how often.

Looks to me like your machine is doing quite well.

I would say about 5000 to 8000 miles

95 and sometimes special BP ultimate 98.

Last fall, chnage oil Mobil 1 15-50, replace spark plugs, put in NGK plug equal to sotck Bosch & synch TB's.

Had the idle at about1,000 even, then a few days later it seemed to stay
at 900?
Thought maybe it was throttle cable end play?
Anywho, I have a little slack in the throttle cable, turn lock to lock, no increase or decrease in idle speed.
Rather than play with the idle some more, I've just left it. No problems.
My plugs are a VERY light color, tan or beige would be a stretch, more whitish. I think your plugs look in range.
My milage runs 40 - 45 MPG I can get er down into the high 30's if I consistantly run her hard & up over a 100MPH which she does all too willingly.
Sorry, did not convert your metric milage. Don't mean to be a bad American.

I use 92/93 octaine
and my bike runs smooth and i get closer to 50mpg no matter what speed i go. my average speed is 80, and my plugs are good not much color change almost look like new. i have a set of NKG plugs that I'm going to put in but my plugs that are in now still look great.

Hi, Endoman,
On the same octane rating scale which T. Moons is using, your 92/93 becomes 97/98. He is using the "Research Method" (German ROZ) and you (and all of us in the USA) are using a bastard system required by our gov't which adds the "Motor Method" to the "Research Method" and divides by 2, thus the (R+M)/2 which you may have seen.
