Had a little incident this morning. I've only got a single car garage so I moved the car out of the way and rolled my K1100LT out of the garage. Parked it near the curb and had just started the Miata to move it back in the garage and heard a big crash behind me.

My beautiful bike had rolled a couple of inches forward on the side stand and flopped over on its left side FLAT. What a terrible sound. One of my neighbors heard it and came running. He helped me lift the bike back to vertical, but the damage was done.

I wound up with a small scratch on the muffler and an absolutely CRUSHED left mirror assembly. I couldn't have crushed it more thoroughly if I spent an entire day throwing cinder blocks at it. We're talking CRUSHED.

It's going to drive me nuts until it's fixed so I've started the parts search. I searched this forum and didn't find a definitive answer as to who to buy these types of parts from. I checked on Flying Duck’s used parts website and it looks like all the mirrors assemblies have been sold. I Googled for BMW motorcycle parts and found several options.

It looks like I need BMW P/N 46-63-2-325-829. The best price I’ve found is from Crossroads BMW of Lynchburg, PA for $125.99 in primer. I had planned to have all the Mystic Red parts repainted next winter anyway so the fact that it comes in primer isn’t a huge deal to me.

I’m all ears if someone has a better/cheaper solution or if anyone has any comments concerning Crossroads BMW. If you’d prefer not to share specific comments on the list, I’d understand and will keep any private messages confidential.

This is going to bug me ‘til it’s fixed! Thanks in advance for any help offered.

I have a left mirror in Bermuda Blue. Drop me an email.....

Every time you put the side stand down it's a good idea to give it an extra kick forward and put the bike in first gear to make sure it won't roll off the stand.

Hi, Gui,
Motorworks does not ship to the USA. MotoBins does, but MotorWorks doesn't.

Or park on a metal surface and weld the goddamned piece of shit to it.

Sorry, that just kinda slipped out...

I've never been fond of the K1100 kickstand and mine has bitten me three or four times, causing thousands of dollars of damage. The kickstand on my F800GS is worse. Within 2 months, it's bent and the bike leans over so much that putting any weight on the bars when getting on lifts the front wheel off the ground. The lean angle is nearly 3x (measured in degrees) normal due to the cheap metal and the stupid bend designed in that kickstand. I had it replaced under warranty, but the new one bent in 2 or 3 months. I need to see if they'll replace it again and this time I'm taking it to a friends to have an I-Beam support welded on to keep it from bending.

In this age of high technology, how difficult can it be to make a kickstand that does it's job reliably? I mean Harley's been doing it for years...

Re-Psycle.com also sells used parts, but to be honest you're probably not going to be able to beat the price and quality Duck will offer.

This also holds for Dungeness crab, as well as parts. The price (on the crab) is right; the quallty (and quantity) will be determined between 7/31 and 8/3! I expect all participants will be happy, if not satiated.

Have you gotten a replacement yet? If not, I believe I have one...I will check if you still need it.

Thanks for the post, Gomedic. I replaced the mirror with a new one. I think there's a thread somewhere talking about the painting process. I'm doing my best to be more careful, but I'll keep you in mind if I screw up again in the future.

I dropped off my bike yesterday afternoon with Beemers & More in Ft. Collins. It developed an exhaust leak and (maybe related) a terrible metallic buzzing at around 3200rpms ONLY when the bike was warmed up thoroughly. It'll probably cost me an arm and a leg to have it fixed, but I'm tired of worrying about it and I don't have time to fix it myself right now. I'm wondering now if the drop a few months ago might have caused this exhaust crack/leak.

Oh the joys of owning mechanical things...

Intersting you should say 3200 rpm's. My '95 has a vibration in my left engine guard(where my highway pegs are) at 3200 rpm, which happens to also be at 55 mph. Shocked

So I guess that means that "I can't drive 55"

As we all know, our K's are notorious for cracking the exhaust. I think it was Number 4? Anyways, after trying several times to have it welded (to no avail) I found a couple on ibmwr. I bought them both! I put one on and 2 weeks later my bike was totalled! I sold one to someone on here and then packed the other away. Bought my current K and have the "spare" laying in waiting... "it's not if, it's when" seems to apply to our exhausts!

I think I got both of mine for around $125-150 each...

I think that exhaust issue was another thread but as long as we're here, mine was broke for both 1 & 2.

i'm starting to think the strong vibration in my bike (at about 3500 rpm, so around the same range) may be more than just throttle body stuff and may be exhaust related as so many others report. thankfully, when i get to looking at it, i should be able to take it into the shop where i work and have someone weld it for me (sheet metal shop attached to the engineering offices where i work).
