A pair of internal snap rings can be modified to replace those little wire rings. I forget the size needed but the trick is to grind the ears down on the inside to provide sufficient clearance for the fork tube. Just leave enough metal to be able to use your snap ring pliers to install and remove them.

Just about to attempt this myself leaving as much as I can on the bike. Small question to any that have successfully done it this way, does the bike need to be raised off the ground higher than where it is on the centre stand? (I know it needs to be supported and secure). Thanks.

Fairing off, block up under the oil pan just to keep it from tilting forward and have at it. Many of us have done the seals while leaving the upper fork tubes on the bike. Once you remove the front wheel you should have plenty of room to pull the sliders off.

This was mine last year- I wrapped the tubes since I was also resealing the timing cover and wanted to protect the tubes from damage.

I should have followed this up ages ago. Did it with forks on bike and all went smoothly apart from that litle snap ring! Took ages to get out and then when re-assembling forgot to put it back in...... don't ask me how! Embarassed

Took for test ride and no leaks even without the ring in but stripped down a second time and did properly. It was a lot quicker the second time Cool
