|
|
Hello everyone, time to put a new battery in. I have done a little homework, and am down to the Panasonic or the Odyssey. Basically they are $82 and $115 respectively. Is the odyssey worth the extra $$? Bike will be ridden infrequently and is usually on a tender (it will have to share for now with the K100) Anyone have preferences?
Thanks,
Joe |

i know some pashnits are using the motobatt...
they have 2 positive and 2 negative connections... makes it easier to hook up a bunch of electrical ch1t... no opinion here cause i aint gotts one... but i though i would throw it out to murky up the water...

I believe the panasonic is the biggest battery you can get for the K. So big that the existing tie down rods do not fit....you need to make your own.
That said, I have had it in mine for 2+ years with nary a hiccup. _________________ Bane of your existence since July 2006

I used to use the Panasonic - it's fine. Before that, Westco - which is just a rebranded, more expensive Panasonic.
I've had the Odyssey in for about a year - no problems. _________________ Jim

I am going on 5 years with the Odysee no problems. I keep it on a battery tender when I'm not using it. _________________ Rich

Allen had 7 years on his Odyssey whene he sold his K11. Still going strong.
I thought mine had died ater 4 years but it was misdiagnosis, I needed a bigger alternator when I went from 35W to 50W og lights.
Beore I figured it out I bought the big Panasonic. I had some K75/K100 hold down bolts and those work fine.
The now 5-year old Odyssey will go into my next project K75. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

i will take the battery if you still have it...
the tender junior red light was steady on which means its charging...
unplugged it and the red light started flashing...
turned the key on and not even enough poop to fire the fuel pump...
put the bmw 3a charger on all night...
turned the key on and the same... not even enough poop to fire the fuel pump...
the iowa winter must have taken its toll...
let me know... i can jeep it down there today to tomorrow...
thanks...

If you have a 93 or earlier that takes a larger battery then there's an Odyssey that's bigger than the PC680 that will fit.
On the K75 I just bought the previous owner realized the battery was getting old and didn't want to send me out to ride back to Seattle with a battery that might not make it. He happens to be a battery distributor as a sideline and although he didn't have a PC680 on hand he did have a brand new PC925. The terminals are on opposite side and point forward, not up but other than that if fits pretty well.

ok heres the deal...
i put underscores westco on the tender and it almost immediately went to green...
i think this bikemaster and the westco are the exact same batteries... they look identical down to the last detail and the nomenclature on the back side is exactly the same... just a different sticker on the front...
anyway... put underscores westco in and hit the fire button and within 1/2 second the 6 month hibernating motobrick was roaring like a moe...
thanks underscore...

I'm running a Westco, only had it a year. ABS2 likes it. In UK the Westco was cheaper than the Panasonic. Westco claims better CCA than a wet cell, but not the lofty 680 CCA of an Odyssey. As I tend to use my bike radio whilst in the garage, I felt biggest A/hours was best for me. Did find I had to modify the lugs (filed the edge down a bit) on the cables, as the bolt holes in the battery terminals were too close to the case. _________________ Regards Tim,
