Could be just a loose bolt in the bottom.

They were professionally turned and rebuilt and shipped to me in Alaska. _________________ 1993 K1100RS aka The Shop Whore

I've become convinced that the reason this bike blows so many fork seals is that the springs are just plain sprung.
That would explain the 'bottoming out' issue even with new seals and proper oil levels.
The Blue Streak has a very firm front suspension, not mushy like the S.W.
I'm going to put the front wheel back on, and wait until Steve gets home so he can help me get it off the lift. Then I'll pull the wheel off, and attempt to rebuild them with brand new springs. That way I won't tie up the lift if it takes me awhile to finish the job. _________________ 1993 K1100RS aka The Shop Whore

Where did you get your forks turned? What was wrong with them? (I have some lightly pitted ones in the basement.)
Most importantly: HOW MUCH DID IT COST? _________________ 93 LT (x2)

I'll have to contact the fellow who arranged all that for me and get back to you.
The way it went down was like this: I posted the forks had hemorraged all their oil out and were sloppy to handle as well as going into tank slappers several times a day at speed, Phil and Steve took care of having the rebuilt forks arriving in Anchorage Alaska a few days before I did.
This was just to keep my brakes a little dry...

Duck, I was mistaken, the forks sent to me in Alaska were not turned. They were just rebuilt.
Well, getting that busted fork back up and the wheel back on was a bitch. As I pushed it back up, oil oozed all over the place.
I had a cute little visitor that laughed his cute little tiny ass off at my antics.
Well, I found out the the BMW Special tools I wanted are no longer available.
Yes, know this job can be done without the cool tools, but I would liked to have had them to use.
I read Ted's string/screwdriver technique and have it printed out for later use. I also talked with Anton who worked on Jim's forks. Steve and I will work on them together because he's really good at this stuff.
Off to find a block of wood to support the bike so I can remove the forks, buy a new bra and get a hair cut. _________________ 1993 K1100RS aka The Shop Whore

It gets worse
So, this morning I went looking for some wood to block the bike up and found this at a construction site in the trash pile.
And did this...
The bag supports the wheel so there's little resistance when pulling the axel out. Not to mention a ready supply of oil dry.
Now this is where it gets all sideways
So I remove the drain plug from the left fork w/o difficulty, and what's left of the oil drains out well.
Then I try to remove the right drain plug and it spins freely but would come on out. I thinking, not always a good thing FWIW, but there I was thinking holy shit, did it strip the threads!
No, I thought, it felt right, but still no matter what I tried, it would not fall on out.
I ask Steve to come take a look.
Back the to left fork, it basically fell / came apart in our hands. So much so that the dogs, and all the spring guts fell out.
This was the damage on the inside.
We played around and installed the new spring set and with the fork out of the bike it was not too difficult to re-install the dogs and put the whole thing back together including the cap.
We were like this That wasn't so hard, and far less hard than I imagined it being.
I start to mess this the right fork while Steve is testing / compressing the one we just assembled and I hear him saying "uh oh"
He said, "I think the dogs fell out".
Sure enough, they did.
Ok, on with the right fork. When I pulled it out of the bike it felt sloppy.
This is how we compressed the spring.
Steve is BRILLIANT with this stuff
This is what we found inside. First, NO OIL!! None! And no evidence of leakage under the gaiter. WTF!
Ok, I take it back a little, here is all the oil we found.
And this is way the dogs fell out in the first place.
The one pictured on the left didn't have the shim that was in place on the right fork.
So to recap, I had TWO completely different failures for two completely different reasons.
The good news, the drain plug was just stuck because the o-ring was holding it in.
And FWIW, broom handles are great for removing the stuck sleeve and spring guide out of the right fork. _________________ 1993 K1100RS aka The Shop Whore

Naw, these are the SW forks.
I had trouble keeping the blue bike on the road because I can't pick good lines anymore. I can't see through the turns like I used to. I'm almost sure I'm turning in too early.
Not a bike issue, it's a rider that's lost skills and nerve issue. _________________ 1993 K1100RS aka The Shop Whore

:wave sweetie.
Jim, meet Drif10, my dear, dear friend and adopted 'older brother' from the Great White North. We've riden together, he rode down from Canuckastan just to help Steve and I move, and once when my back was still healing in the brace, he rode to VA, loaded his bike on a trailer, and towed it just so he could DRIVE me to a ADVrider event in north western GA.
There is nothing Steve and I wouldn't do for him. _________________ 1993 K1100RS aka The Shop Whore
