Hello all , was out yesterday for the first really nice day this summer for a good spin however at one stage I got stuck in a traffic jam and the K engine got fairly hot the idle started climbing as it got hotter , up to about 2000rpm at one stage Shocked and dropped back to normal once I got moving again , the fan did kick in and the gauge went slightly high but not overheated any ideas ?
Regards
Bill

first thing that came to mind is a vacuum leak... (something expanding as it heats up and opening a leak).

second thought... a sensor switch?
but the third thought kinda blocked that.... Wink
i would not know what sensor would be switched with what other one to affect running of the bike in that way...... tempsensor switched with another one... but can't think of any other one?

I presume that this is your Scorpion?
This is a guess on my part but, fuel fumes getting to the air intake when setting still?

I've had my K setting still many times this last month in traffic. The engine temp did rise and the fan came on but the idle never increased.

Thanks for the replies Tmoons and Scott its in the Scorpion alright its a 1990 K1 engine with motronic and TPS and no lambda sensor I have had it get hot before but never had the idle speed rise like this I only had rebalanced the throttle bodies the night before and it is running smoothly and strongly but this rise in idle is new I might try Tmoons vacuum leak idea but the fact that the idle dropped again after a run to drop the temp a bit has me confused. The air box air temp sensor connection is a bit gammy would this have this affect if it went open circuit ?
Regards
Bill

Hello Tmoons we have run out of warm weather for the last while you must be getting it over there in Holland ?
The scorpion cooling system is a bit tricky to bleed and requires putting axle stands under the balance point and rocking it backwards and forwards Rolling Eyes to get the air out , I reckon I still have a lot of air in there as I am still topping up but I dont have a leak , when we get a warm day next Cool I will report back.
Regards

Should it not bleed easier with the engine running, running the pump and "forcing" the liquids around a bit (taking are along with it?)
