Greetings all,
My wonderful 1993 K11RS does everything very well, but recently has developed an irritating habit. Occasionally, when I push the starter button, I hear a slight 'click' and nothing more. The starter doesn't engage.
Then another time, it turns over and starts right up.
Battery and electrics seem up to par. My first thought is that the battery terminals/cables need cleaning..

What are your thoughts?

Hi Steve -

welcome to K11OG! There's a lot of good info here - and a little BS. The search button at the top of every page is your friend - that said, feel free to ask any questions you have - they usually get answered.

It's easy enough to check the battery terminals and cables - clean 'em if they need it, and put some corrosion protection on them - if nothing else, use petroleum jelly. Better would be Corrosion-X or dielectric grease.

Also check, clean and protect as many connectors as you can find on both sides of the bike and under the seat. Many intermittent problems are caused by poor connections.

Check the kill and sidestand switches, too.

Worst case is your starter is starting to fry 'Crying or Very sad'

Good luck - let us know what you find.

Do you mean 'nothing' more, or does it make quiet whirring noise like a motor running?

The reason I ask is 'cos if it's a poor battery/starter motor connection, it's usually quite loud click, but a soft whirring while the button is pressed in indicates a sticking starter clutch, and this can be cured by either a straight oil change, or a flush and oil change.

Starter relay could be acting up as well. That's probably the "click" that your hearing.

when you get her started do the abs lights still remain on, your rolling more than the precribed distance and the abs hasn't clicked off..
if so then you need to replace the battery.

If all the above fail check the bushes in the starter motor. If they haven't ever been changed they may need to be.

Cheers
