Has anyone used a automotive type gps on a motorcycle using the suction cup mount? I mainly don't want it on the bike except when I'm going somewhere unfamiliar. Nothing worse than trying to follow a printout from mapquest while riding.

Also, I saw on a for sale thread that FD had provided a K11 pointer for a gps. I'd sure like one of those. Is it a file that can be loaded?

I rigged my Magelleon on my Bagster tank bag...used zip ties and the sticky tape they provide. It's ghetto but works perfect and does not interfere with the tank bag in any way.

I dont see why a suction cup mount wouldn't work on an LT - but I'd figure out some sort of leashing setup just to be safe.

What brand and model is your GPS?

Garmin Nuvi 650. Duck, do you still have the file for the K11 pointer?

Probably make sense to just ride with the mount and a tether first.

The TomTom just uses a single image. It looks like the Nuvi uses multiple images from various angles.

Like so:

If you back up in that address to http://techmods.net/nuvi/ it tells you how to modify an existing Garmin file. Maybe some member with the skill and a lot of time on their hands could build one. Garmin does provide a couple of motorcycle options at http://www8.garmin.com/vehicles/bundles/allvehicles.html.

I haven't found a suitable GPS mount for my RS, so I carry it in the clear map pouch on my tank bag.

Jim

I have a Gamin Zumo 550 that you can use in a car with suction cup mount . However have had the thing drop off the window twice so would never use on the bike. I use the Ram mount on the bike and it is quick to remove and pack away so can not see your problem. The problem with automotive units is that they are not weather proof that however may not be a problem for you.

Hope my comments are of help to you

Regards

I've had mine on for a year now without it falling off, the secret is to clean the area of attachment with degreaser and lick the cup before attaching.

Wanting to see what all the fuss was about, I found a one month old TomTom One on Craig's list for $50.

I figured it would sit perfectly on the "dash" and stuck to the windshield. Worked perfectly until I hit some rough roads and it came loose. I had it very clean too. Next try was a real thin smear of clear silicone sealer. That worked.
