Driving home from work, noticed the front brake lever felt quite stiff.. then noticed it started to bind.. stopped to have a look and then it locked up completely. Pulled the brake lever to see if I could work it free but as I pulled is spat out fluid from the brake pipe above the front mudguard. Of course it's not binding now which suggests it's not callipers but some kind of pressure thing.. does it? Is there a return valve or something?
Managed to get home on rear brake only..
Any thought / ideas welcome.. Talk me technical chaps!

A collapsed hose can act as a check valve.

well the one which spat out fluid is the one coming down to the joint attached to the top of the front mudguard (fender in US?) between the forks.. so there's a break there for sure...

Fender brace?

I think it's part 34322312205 and is unique to the K1100LT. $56 in the US.

Whilst you have the front end apart, upgrade to braided stainless hoses.

The last K11s are now 10 years old - brake hoses inevitably degrade, and swell slightly under pressure.
I fitted a Goodridge kit to my K11 LT (as I do with all my bikes). It is a 4 line kit, and the job was done in under 90 minutes.

1, m/cyl to hard pipe (ABS)
2, from hard pipe (ABS) to splitter on fork brace
3,4 Splitter to Calipers

You will have to bleed 2,3 and 4 anyway, and I guarantee you will feel the faster bite and better stoppies with this worthwhile mod Smile
