As a girl, I have a natural tendency for hair-brained ideas. 
This is my latest. 
I want to put K1100LT fairing pockets on my K1100RS.
I think it can be done.
I know it will involve some serious mods.
Tell me what you think.

I think it's a little far fetched, but what do I know. The easiest way to do it is put an LT fairing on - comes with pockets - AND a powered wind screen!
Better get to those fork seals first, though.

I hope some see an LT at H.M. to get a better idea what's involved.
Steve said if the parts come in before Thrusday, he'll do the seals. I'm working every night up to then.
I dinged the front wheel pretty badly last week doing 45+mph on the gravel road to the top of Spruce Knob, WVa.  So the plan is to send it off to Woody's Wheel Works after H.M.
While it's gone, we'll install the Progressive springs and might install the PIAA 910's where my 35W floods are. Don't know yet.
Or we'll do the springs with the seal job. It's a matter of us having the time before we hit the road.

having just taken my K1100RS apart - and ridden the K1100LT, I think its no problem to fit the pockets - you would need new knee pad thingies (the rubber thick bits) and the brackets etc.
they are all available on ebay in the Stores, shouldnt be a big drama.
I've gone naked - but i originally considered them for the extra space.
I now have an ex-police single seat with storage box (from an K1100LT) instead! |

It MIGHT be possible but would require lots of work if it were.
Some issues which would be involved:
1) Mounting brackets: The buckets mount in metal brackets. The RS fairing doent have the mounting holes for those brackets.
You might be able to rig something up to emualte those - would be some work though.
2) Bucket depth: I think the buckets are probably too deep to fit in the RS fairing. I'm about 95% sure this would be a deal-breaker.
3) Knee panels. IF oyu did this, you'd have to convert to LT knee panels too. I don't think the angles are the same where between the two models. This is would be another deal breaker.
MY ADVICE: Just hang a few more bags off of that beast. Nobody'll notice.
It's good idea to get more space but in the end I don't think it's feasible.
On my K100RS, I mounted a black plastic box above the right vent to hold my radar detector. The would also double as a small storage compartment. If I run acroos pictures of it, I'll let you know.

Naw, I NEED a dirt bike.
I saw an LT today at Morton's BMW. I can see why it would be more trouble than it's worth.

Yeah, well... If you buy an LT from Morton's, unless they found a '97 brand new in the crate, I can guarantee you it'll be more trouble than it's worth
