|
|
Until this week I hadn't had a chance to really test the custom seat I had done last summer. Well, it still needs some work as my butt was getting sore over the past few days. So I decided to rest my buns by riding pillion. Since my LT is well-balanced, I can turn on the cruise control and sit up in the back with my feet on the rider pegs and it's very nice up there. I can steer through most sweepers just by putting pressure on the pegs.
Look, Ma! No hands.
(The painter's tape on the speedo is to remind me that I have new tires.)

I used to see how far I could ride with no hands. Sitting on the pillion is a very nice place to do this - I still do on occasion. Wanna' be sure that front tire is well balanced, however...
My personal record was accomplished sometime in the mid-90's on my first ST1100. It was a rare calm summer evening with perfect temp and setting sun in the Red River Valley south of Fargo, ND. This is one of those places you can see the curvature of the earth - no joke.
I set my Vista Cruise and slipped back on the pillion. Very few vehicles. I do remember nonchalantly passing a guy on a Harley as I leaned on the ST's backrest with my arms crossed. Bet he was impressed...
Finally a semi came up from behind. His wake disrupted my balance enough to where I thought I'd better grab the bars. I had gone 72 miles with no hands. I then went another 30 or so. Damn truck. Coulda' made a hunnerd... _________________ tlp

But isn't it 4" taller than stock?
At the lowest position you can see over it? _________________ Bane of your existence since July 2006

Yep, no problemo. I even put it up just a little to get the wind over my head.
FYI: It's +3.5. (Although it's only 1/4" shorter than my +4 Parabellum. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

I like the look of the smoked screen, but the upswept look of the corners kind of bothers me.
I might be looking into something however. Since I repaired my windshield it rides lower than it did before hence I ride with it fully up now. At the max up position it about level with my nose.
The problem is that now I have a ton of buffeting going on behind the screen. I'm not sure if it's a helmet problem but I can't help but think that by changing the angle and deflection of the screen I somehow fubared the ergonomics.
I used to ride with the screen about 2-3" down from fully up. _________________ Bane of your existence since July 2006

It's the screen, the Cee Bailey is the way to go. I know, the bike on the website is mine.
The screen Drake has is the Eurocut, it really makes the difference. I have all the screens for the LT, it was the gift Cee Bailey gave me for modeling with my LT. Great guys, and very good quality screens. _________________ Larry

Looks promising.
Since we just dropped close to 5K on a new apartment and moving, it will have to wait a bit.
Is this confusing to others as well?
| Quote: | 1. If you have a stock , non-adjustable windshield, go to step #2. If your stock shield is mechanically adjustable, lower it to the bottom or lowest position. If your windshield is electrically adjustable (RT, LT, FJR, Connie 14) extend it about a quarter (25%) of the way up.
2. Get a measuring tape or yardstick.
3. Move your bike to a level spot.
4. Tape the yardstick to the center of the windshield with masking tape, from the bottom of the shield, and with the yardstick pointing straight up.
5. Sit on your bike. What you trying to do is draw an imaginary line, parallel with the ground, from approximately your chin position while riding, to the yardstick. I.E, if an imaginary parallel line from your chin to the yardstick, measures about three inches above the top of your current shield, you would be best suited by a +3” taller shield. Width is dependant on your body type, more robust riders will want more width for better torso protection, while a smaller stature rider may use a stock width that is perfectly acceptable. |
I'm not sure about the taping of the yardstick. Like where does the butt end go? What am I measuring?
Also...what's the advantages between the Euro and standard cuts as far as wind protection goes?
I like the blue, and at 200$ shipped might be a good thing. (so long as I can keep it under the radar from the wife)

The difference between the two styles is mostly if not completely cosmetic.
I have both styles and they perform identically. The Eurocut looks more streamlined. The method to measure makes sense, however wider shields permit less airflow to the cockpit and can make riding on hot days less tolerable. Buffetting with either style shield is for the most part non existent.
My 2bits.

You hit the nail on the head, OTG, with a 4+ screen you don't have to raise it hardly at all and so it remains at that acute lowered angle, hence a more streamlined profile and no buffet. Hell, I shoulda worked for NASA. _________________ Scott Hespelt, '94 K11LT
