How many gallons? (Unflappered, meaning I HAVE the flapper)

Just trying to figure out my exact fuel consumption.

Dave - I think it's 5.2 without the flapperectomy. Don't have a manual handy to check. When I did a search, the only post I could find with tank capacity was one of my previous posts.

Read the MPGs on those spec pages. That is what you should get unless you run the high RPMs A LOT Twisted Evil

If someone has run a tank completely dry and filled it that would be helpful info.

This sounds low to me. I get 170miles before the orange light comes on & have done up to 210 miles before running it dry (once & never again!). Range does not vary much regardless of whether I'm doing stop and go city riding or driving down the California coast. I have not done a flapperectomy either. I seem to recall a couple of threads that talked about range and everyone reported similar number.

It's between 4.8 and 5 gallons for a 1996 K1100LT.

I hit reserve around 160-185 depending on how much downhill travel there was. I've clocked 60mpg coming back from the Sierras. Typically mileage is 40-44mpg.

I've put 220 miles on a tank before, but we're talking on fumes. Of course, if I was going downhill from a mountain range, I could get close to 300 miles on a tank. But can you COUNT on that? I always plan based on typical mileage.

O.K., my brick's low light come on at 190 and I routinely run it to 215 and only get 4.5 gallons in it. HOW MUCH DOES THE TANK HOLD! Laughing

I can average 40-45mpg at good highway speeds. And not much more that 200 mile per tank, at best in the summertime. The most I have put in was 5 gal and it was stuttering when I pulled up to the pump.

Light comes on at 180 miles.

I get between 36 - 49 mpg depending on how I ride.

OK guys, one of these days when I have time, I'll go out to the bike and get the owner's manual. I was thinking 5.2 US gallons, but it could just as easily be 5.6 or 5.8.

One thing to consider....I ride my bike hard.

I mean I beat on it like a naughty wife.

Off the lights cars are usually 100' or more behind me.

Due to this I don't think I ever run a tank dry or close to dry. In fact if memory serves me correct I rarely put over 4 gallons of gas in my tank. (most I have ever put in was 15$ worth, and that was with gas coming out of the flapper)

This is due to the hesitation I feel off the line when the gas sloshes to the rear of the tank.

The mystery deepens!

I just checked my owner's manual, which states:

19.5 liters or 5.2 gallons

although 19.5 liters is 5.151 gallons

I did run bone dry many years ago and when I filled it up, it took 4.8 gallons and change. However, recently, I've put more than 4.8 gallons in it, although I've had the flapper removed, which does raise capacity a little.
