at approximately 7:00PM pacific time, the K11RS rode off into the Oregon sunset in the hands of a new, proud, k-experienced owner. it's been a great 4 years with this group... I'll pop in on occasion to see how things are going.
Ted, we're going to have to find another worthy moderator, as I won't be around as much as I used to be.
Next up is project R80S - cafe style... the victim arrives tomorrow night.

| I will I promise. I'll post up significant milestones in my pursuit to build a retro cafe-racer out of this poor, neglected R80RT. |

Good luck with the cafe racer. Take a look at the following link - there are others doing similar things and there's lots of info and advice.

I must confess I was sorry to see the bike sell - I sure appreciate the great investment you've made here (especially helping me delete spam regs LoL).
This place is the sum of those who stop in every day or so - you'll be missed!
That said, please do keep us up to date on the cafe-racer, that is one COOL project

well, I promised some pictures, so here goes
it's an early 84 R80RT. well, it was an RT. I guess someone had a major garage accident with it and so it was consequently converted into a /7. Benefit? Dual front discs from the RT on a /7. I'm definitely OK with that.
this is how filthy things were when I got it
It was not running, no battery, dry fork, disgusting fuel tank, deinstalled front brakes... I began to think that I had made a mistake.
First thing I did was rebuild the calipers, replace the dead starter, get a battery, drain and clean the tank, put new fuel filters and fuel in it and LOTS of cleaning. After fiddling with a few things here and there, adjusting the valves, filling the forks, installing bar end mirrors and whatnot, this is how the finished product looked:
but... I can't stop removing parts (remember this is a CAFE exercise)... a much sexier ass, no?

Nice. A quarter fairing would really set it off. _________________ Blair Rawls

| I'm on the fence on both the wheels and the fairing. I'd love a set of sweet period aftermarket wheels. I may paint the wheels black once the bike is silver. I also really like the OEM "S" fairing, but a higher priority item is a new corbin gunfighter saddle to continue the racer theme. It rides GREAT, the reputation of the smoothness of the R80 seems to be true. |

Hi folks -
Lots has been 'fiddled with' on the R80 since I last posted up here, so here's an update.
I called corbin and had them build me a gunfighter saddle. This is not normal fare for /7s but they said they could pull it off. So they did.
You can barely see the mini LED taillight above the license plate. Still working on a final solution for rearward lighting. This one is good because it's uberstealth, but...
I recently refinished the wheels with Wurth wheel paint, and painted the rear housing black. Painted the disc carriers black. Touched up the frame. I'm gonna slap some number plates on her in the next few weeks.
sorry for the shitty pictures. oldass camera that was handy.
and those of you that dont believe I ride it, here she is at the end of 250+ miles of horrible downpour working the WOW Willamette Valley Relay

Nice job - pretty wild to turn the entire rear end into a gunfighter seat.
How many hours does it take to clean each wheel?
The 007 is cool too - how'd you wrangle that one? _________________ 93 LT (x2)

hey guys, here's an update. lots of stuff has changed.
installed a more retro taillight
stuck some vintage oval number plates on the sides and bobbed the front fender
and last night I decided to shoot the tank in the aluminum paint I used for the fender. I think I like it.
hope all is well with the group! |
