Last Saturday a mate on his R1200GS and I turned a Farride into our first Ironbutt SS1600 k's day, by doing 1752k's in 19 hours. It was a big day, started out for the first 4 hours wet and cold and foggy which slowed us down, but it picked up from there. The Farriders are kind of an IBA associate, they wanted 1000ks for the day, but we continued on from that.
The bike didn't miss a beat, but I gotta admit the R12GS is a far better machine for this type of thing, the suspension is leagues ahead, which is handy on our outback goat tracks!! The BUMPS!!! Oh the BUMPS!!!! Nearly got thrown off the bike on one of them, bottomed out numerous times, I will wind the preload up next time.
Some stats, spent a lot of time at around 140 - 145 ks, but most time was at around 125k's, averaged 5.1litres/100k's which is pretty good at those speeds! GPS said moving average was 108 kph, overall average was 92.2 kph.
So some picies, almost sunrise, wet and cold in Dalby:-
The Farriders registration at Mitchell:-
The mighty Charleville Railway station. Market day which consisted of two trucks of pot plants......:-
Are we there yet? Cunnamulla, famous for underage sex (don't ask!):-
That's not a truck...THIS is a truck. There's a prime mover in the middle BTW, so they have 3 semi trailers on each Prime Mover, oh and they aren't slow either...... fun to overtake! The drivers would have been in the bar over the road having a beer before continuing! :-

Neat report, thanks for sharing, really like that paint on the RS.
Get your self a Realm shock for the back and put in a Works dual stage spring kit # FK-3410 up front. No more bottoming out and SUPREME handling.
I swear I can run down a goat path and the bike just takes it all in and stays planted and NO bucking bronco ride. _________________ 1993 K1100RS that I'd rather be riding FAST!

sorry.....
I think I'll perservere with the Ikon shock and wind it up a bit to stop the bottoming out. It doesn't have enough pre load on it. Might look at the springs thoug, Andrew here has a set of Works springs he wants me to try, I'll give them a go first. The ride was only uncomfortable in a few spots really, and I only bottomed out twice. The roads we were on are described as the worst they have been on by lots of other riders, so I guess we saw the worst
The wildlkife was actually scarier!!! _________________ K1100RS '97
