The important location is where the oil seal rides the shaft. If that is smooth and not worn down you should be OK. The water seal doesn't run on the shaft, it runs on a ring in the seal. The shaft pa ...

I've never heard of any of these engines being worn out, I have seen pictures of an engine that had run over 300K miles and you could still see the honing marks in the bores. Unless you've suffered a ...

Sorry, have to ask, why do you think it will be suspended in the oil if you don't ride the bike for a week? The fact that you need to mix it up in blenders etc means to me that it will spend its live ...

Ken, those sensors themselves aren't too expensive and fairly easy to replace. If you doubt the loom measure it from the sensor to the connector. IHave a look around, there are many guidance docs on t ...

Did you have a look at the pressure relief in the pump? Its a spring loaded bush that is there to keep the oil at a minimum pressure and to open when the pressure could get too high (cold oil) to prot ...

My progressive fork springs (WP) got a 15W oil specified, so changing over to progressive springs doesn't necessarily mean a reduced oil weight. But you could of course.

Ernie, with respect, I think we have to agree to disagree. If the 'clutch rod seal' (and that's what it is, a proper seal ring, not a flimsy boot) was fitted for prevention of dust build-up and subseq ...

Ernie, my understanding is that the clutch rod bearing area is in connection with the clutch housing, allowing prevention of air pressure in the boot when operating the clutch. It seems rather normal ...

Ernie, I don't understand you comment. There is supposed to be transmission oil in the boot in order to keep the thrust bearing of the clutch operating rod lubricated. Are you telling us that BMW has ...

Did some oil come out of the boot or the recess? The bearing in the clutch operating rod would need some lubrication otherwise could get hot with regular clutch use

The idle should be set/be good with a warmed up engine. This means that using the 'choke' on start-up is common and not a wrong setting issue. IIRC the idle should be 950 +/- 50.

I normally use one of those 'cruiser stands' when I do work like that; one of those square frames with a handle. Works like a charm.

Please turn the cap around. If you have a good look you'll see that the hinge has to be at the aft part, so the drain recess on the left lines up with the drain line through the tank to prevent rain ( ...
