Here are pictures of my front and rear tires after 10624 miles of use. Front tire still has about +2000 miles of wear left. Rear tire has some funky wear.

Hope you have it out by now. If you dismantle it make a note of which end goes where on the body. If you reverse them the starter will crank in reverse. Don't ask how I know that.

If all the above fail check the bushes in the starter motor. If they haven't ever been changed they may need to be.
